Perfectionsm and Intuition - How
Perfectionism Destroys Your Intuitive Powers...and How
To Fix It
Kevin Hogan in his program
Lifestorms talks about different
kinds of perfectionism. It’s a
hard life to live because you set standards that are
absolutely, positively impossible for you not to
reach.
Perfectionism can be a
killer. It sneaks up ans whos itself in many
different ways.
The
Perfectionist “Idea Man”
You hear this, a
lot, from Creative PeopleFull of great
ideas. But never finish any of
them.
Perfectionism always looking for
some new and better way to improve things before the
first idea is even given a chance.
It’s kind of exciting …kind of
enjoyable, and can be very
stimulating.
But underneath is this mass
discontent that nothing is quite good
enough.
His ideas are being generated out
of the insecurity, not creativity.
Is
there something wrong with trying to do your best…or be
“the best”?
Self improvement is great. But
perfectionists are practicing improving
themselves...they practice condmening themselves under
the guise of making things "just right" or
"perfect"
But it’s different if it’s a
compulsion.
What I mean by that is you never,
ever stop. And you can’t be
satisfied with anything you do
accomplish.
The True Perfectionist has a
stomach ache all the time.
And nothing lets it go
away.
Why
perfectionism is the enemy of
intuition.
A lot of people like being called
perfectionist. It’s a badge of honor. And I’m not about
to try to change their life.
Perfectionism kills your intuition
because every
time you receive
an intuitive message… rather than
just hold on and let it sink in…you jump in looking for
a new way or a better way to do what you were
instructed to follow.
The Intuition drives
Perfectionists crazy because the Intuition doesn’t
always lay out the map for you. It
often gives you just the next step.
It’s the right step. But you can’t
see beyond it. So if you’re a map
reader…you can’t trust it.
The nature of unintuitive message
is such that when you get it, it’s a condensed
answer. The next step is never good
enough for that type of person who thinks that
way.
There’s
Always Two End OF the Spectrum
I had read an article talking
about project management that drew the difference
between “Cowboy “ and “Perfectionist” project
managers.
The Cowboy is the kind of person
who shoots from the hip. The
Perfectionist is someone who will not take any step
without quantifying and analyzing every piece of a
period.
The weakness of the Cowboy is that
they jump to conclusions without facts, have very
unrealistic time lines (never allow
enough time), don’t put the products to enough testing
and have little documentation .
The weakness of the Perfectionist
is they spend way too much time investigating every
angle and every piece of every
decision. On timelines, they
overestimate the amount of time it should take and
spend a tremendous amount of resources including time
and money far beyond what was ever needed.
They also have a built-in lack of
flexibility and have to stay on task no matter what So
in the end they end up over designing and taking a lot
longer for a project to be finished and should ever be
needed to.
Fortunately, it’s the people
in the middle who end up getting the leadership roles
and bring some balance to the
group.
Intuition
Straddles The Middle Ground
The point I’d like
to get here is Intuition often creates a middle ground
for decisions.
It takes in your
logical, reasoning input.
And it adds it to
all your experiences and values.
And it brings both
of them together for an answer that satisfies both
sides of your mind.
Thanks,
Intuitive
